Advertising today is somehow more complicated than a few decades ago. It used to be enough to show the qualities of the product and let people know how amazing it was through nice ads. This might seem irrelevant; however, you have to keep in mind that these characters are not only the face of this brand; they also have their own branding and merchandising which represents a considerable amount of M&M’s revenue. Taking these types of measures lightly could result in a disastrous outcome. It is fair to assume that this brand wouldn’t go through all the trouble without extensive research backing up these decisions.
