Marketing, Branding, and the Importance of Brand Identity

At Twelve12 we want to see our customers and friends succeed, and this is why our Orange County Marketing team is now sharing a secret about marketing, brand identity, and advertising and their importance for any business.

Marketing is not just advertising your business without any regard to your company’s image. By “company”, I don’t mean a big enterprise with thousands of employees; I mean any type of commercial front that you may be using for selling products or services. It can be anything from a homemade cupcake business to a therapist private practice.

And why would you care about marketing if you are a one-man/woman company? Isn’t that something that should only matter to the “big boys”? Not really! Every good company should pay attention to its public image, no matter how big or small it might be.

Branding is one of the most important aspects of marketing. It allows you to communicate with your prospects without even talking to them, through colors, fonts, mascots, icons, etc. Your brand identity must be upheld throughout your marketing efforts. Consider, for example, a person who sells children’s books and has a logo with primary and playful colors. Children respond to color and. They shouldn’t create a black and white ad for a Facebook or an Instagram campaign, however elegant and serious it may look, as it’s not an ideal color palette for someone who is supposed to communicate that the products are designed for children.

Going even further than just a general ad or image, when a business or person sticks to a certain type of design, it helps their audience remember and identify the company. You may not see where the importance of this lies, but think about it for a second: how many times has someone recommended you a business, but who couldn’t remember the exact name, and after an online search came back with the words “It’s that one, the one with the white waves and the blue background!”?

They are Identifying and remembering the company not by name but by the visual punch of their logo or website. Being able to recognize a service or a business also helps with sales, as studies have shown that recognizing and being able to recall a good buying experience may be the only factor in choosing between two brands.
