Social Media Listening

We have talked about the importance of marketing strategies many times. Today, I want to talk about something that I believe is truly important for your online marketing. Social Media Listening. At Twelve12 (like all top marketing companies in Orange County) we know that social media is a big part of your marketing plan, at least if you want to enhance your presence online and take advantage of the current technology.

With internet marketing in Orange County, we keep hearing the following words from clients: social media presence, social media engagement, social media conversion rate. And many of our current customers are aware of the implications of being present in any social media platform, but for some, it is just like a radio or a TV commercial, and it is very hard for them to understand the importance of social media listening in order to achieve the results that they are looking for.

It may sound tough, but with no “pain”, there’s no gain. It doesn’t even have to be a pain if you do things the right way. If you have absolutely no idea about what I am talking about here, let me explain. Social media are all those wonderful platforms that you or the people that you know to use to share stuff online or to talk to people, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are just some of them, but they are among the most popular.

Now that you got that part, let’s move on to the social listening part. The name says it all; it is to actively listen to the people around your company. What social listening is not, is randomly find posts from people that are talking about a product or a company and pick what you want. Social listening is a very interesting tactic that involves social media monitoring (not to confuse with social media monitoring), where you will pay attention to anything that people are saying about your market, it could be good, bad, wishes, complaints, etc. And take action.

I don’t want you to misunderstand social media listening and social media monitoring. When you monitor social media, you do it over a period of time and as a response you make changes to your products or services and develop better online strategies, with social listening, you will actively respond to the customers and this will help you get a better engagement with your customers, you can also take advantage of situations. As an example, you could check out what Oreo did during a Super Bowl blackout in 2013.
